![]() << Back March 13, 2010 Royce Gracie Grapple for the Cure Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu of Fresno is proud to host our 2nd annual “Grapple for the Cure. Jiu-Jitsu tournament to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital on Saturday March 13, 2010. Last year we raised over $3,000 for this great charity, and we hope to beat that mark this year! This tournament features divisions for Pee-Wee’s age 3-6 (no submissions), Kids, Teens and Adults. Juvenile divisions will be broken up as fairly as possible based on age, weight, and experience. The adult (Gi) division will feature the following weight classes: 125, 145, 165, 185, 205, 225, and 226+. Weigh ins are the day of the event, without a Gi. Divisions will be held for white belt (5 minute matches) and blue belt (6 minute matches). No advantage points will be utilized, and ties will be settled by sudden victory overtime. This is a single elimination event, but consolation matches will be offered to all first round competitors that do not advance. We are also seeking advanced competitors for superfight matches. (E-mail your info to rgjjoffresno@yahoo.com). In addition to the Gi tournament, we are also holding a No-Gi tournament in the cage. Help us break our brand new toy in the right way! The rules for these unique matches will be as follows: NO STRIKING, but MMA gloves must be worn for grip. 2, five minute rounds scored on a “10 point must system based on effective grappling, take downs, and ring control (equally weighted). A third, sudden victory round will be held in case of a tie. Same weight classes as the Gi tournament, but this will be an open division. The goal of this event is to give competitors the taste of jiu-jitsu in a cage environment! The tournament will be held at the newly expanded Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu of Fresno. 393 W.
